Congratulations to students Carl Dexter, Martin Brennan and Lam Lye Ching on completing their White Paper exercise

Carl Dexter:


I suggested Carl should use his test piece an example of his work when bidding for his first project. Well, he has closed a deal already (this all happened within the last few days). As Carl says, “Indeed, White Papers are a great marketing tool -- whether you're looking for business or a job.” Interestingly, Carl had wondered how he would cope, but found it easy and had said earlier: “Turns out, it has the same format as a blog article but covers more ground and -- yes -- holds more clout because of the surveys, case studies and statistics. I'm encouraged to do more and hone my skills.”

Martin Brennan:

​Martin began his copywriting career after completing my ‘How to Become a Copywriter’ course and he is particularly proud of the work he has done for his biggest client (writing technical narratives to help UK tech startups access government funding). In 2015, his writing contributed to over £2.6m in government R&D tax credit relief for UK tech startups.
​
When I caught up with him, Martin said “It was your mentioning of Carl Dexter launching his career on the back of his course-project paper that spurred me into action, so hopefully this might have a similar effect on somebody else.”

Lam Lye Ching:

​Lam Lye Ching has already begun to carve out a career as a corporate/business writer and, having completed our course, he’s now ready to grow his service offering into the profitable niche of White Papers..

He explains: "I wanted to expand my writing portfolio for the downstream oil and IT industries and thought a course on White Paper writing which includes doing the actual writing will allow me to experience what it is like for myself. I look forward to becoming a White Paper writer. Its fun to write and really helps all kinds of business, big and small, to generate leads." 

Lam Lye is yet another example of someone for whom English may not be their first language and yet, using the web, is able to exploit the opportunities for Business-English writing in Asia, as well as the US.

Business writing, such as a White Paper, doesn’t need to accommodate country-specific cultural differences in the way that sales copywriting does.
