The audio copyright symbol (phonogram)
For audio copyright ℗ on a PC
When copyrighting an audio piece of work, you need a phonogram symbol - a letter P inside a circle ℗.
This only works with some applications - eg Word. I have, however, received a post from Steve Cox that you should find useful:
"When using the 2117 alt+X suggestion in Word I typed in 'copyright' before the phonogram and '2010' after, then I created a text box for the text. I then made all the edits I needed (no border, color of text, no fill), copied the text box and pasted it into an Adobe Illustrator file with good results. The creation of the text box made the difference."
Thanks Steve.
Audio copyright Phonogram Symbol on a MAC
I am not a Mac user, so cannot vouch for this, but I believe that the typeface Lucida Grande (a Mac OS X system font) does include the Phonogram symbol.
If anyone knows of a more universal Mac solution, do let me know and I will pass it on.
My thanks to Micael Day for the following:
My MAC is an OS X 10.6.8 (Leopard).
From the drop down menu under Edit, I clicked on 'Special Characters'.
In the Characters window that opened, I clicked the 'By Category' button and scrolled down to 'Enclosed Letters'. On the right side of the window is a generous selection of encircled letters, including many symbols from asian alphabets. Keep scrolling down and you will find a P in a circle. Ⓟ

- simply Type 2117 followed by Alt+X to insert the phono/sound copyright symbol.
